Accommodation
There is a small guesthouse in Wanang Village (safe water, village cooking, beds with mosquito nets, safe drinking water, latrines, but no air con and no TV), perfect to experience village life.
The Swire Research Station is the PNG’s only permanent fully equipped research station in the middle of a pristine rainforest. It comprises three buildings that provide accommodation with bunk beds with mosquito nets, even a toilet and a shower, plus solar power and a freezer, making a cold beer a possibility.
The station has no road access so it is supplied by carriers. It has a cook catering for the guests. Radio and mobile phone signal (but too weak for internet) available.
Fun fact: The Prince of Monaco spent a night in our Royal Suite at the Swire station in 2012 (and donated to the station our solar power system).
