Paraecologists
BRC is one of the leading organizations in the tropics training paraecologists – research technicians recruited from indigenous communities, combining traditional knowledge of natural history with modern ecological research (details in Novotny et al. 2012, Schmiedel et al. 2016).
Paraecologists can be very efficient in ecological research as well as in grassroots environmental education and in conservation. BRC is recruiting and training paraecologists along the Mt Wilhelm transect, in support of both research and conservation.
Bonny Koane, one of Mt Wilhelm paraecologists, has become one of the leading PNG ornithologists, conducting fieldwork in various regions of PNG, presenting results at international conferences and publishing in research journals.
