SUMMARY

Moro Suave is from Okapa District, Eastern Highlands Province, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (UNITECH), graduating in 2017. Since completing his studies, he has spent seven years working with PNG Biomass, a carbon project specialising in reforestation and afforestation in the Markham Valley, where he contributed to the establishment and management of planted forests in close collaboration with local communities and project teams.

This professional experience has deepened his understanding of plantation development, community engagement, and sustainable land-use practices, while fostering his commitment to nature-based solutions as a tool for environmental restoration and rural benefit.

His research, “Dynamics of Nature-Based Carbon Projects on Environmental, Social and Governance Issues in Papua New Guinea: A Case Study of the Markham Valley Afforestation and Reforestation Project in Morobe Province,” examines the multidimensional impacts of large-scale carbon forestry initiatives. Moro’s work bridges field experience and academic inquiry, investigating how nature-based carbon projects can deliver co-benefits across environmental, social, and governance dimensions in the Papua New Guinea context.
